Animation pioneer Halon Entertainment chooses Glasgow for new £28 million studio

LA-based animation and visualisation company Halon is the latest global company to join Scotland’s vibrant creative ecosystem.
Attracted by the city’s skilled workforce and world-renowned academic institutions, Halon has announced plans to invest £28 million in a new studio in Glasgow.
Best-in-class from blockbusters to video games
Headquartered in California, Halon Entertainment is a pioneer in animation for game cinematics, real-time visualisation, and virtual production.
The company is an industry leader in end-to-end visualisation services for everything from movies to games.
Its recent work includes blockbuster movies like the Planet of the Apes franchise, major television series like The Mandalorian, and one of the world’s most popular video games, Fortnight.
As well as working on huge projects like this, Halon is also right at the cutting -edge of tool development for animation and visualisation technology.
Servicing the world from Scotland
Scotland is a global hub for creative technology. It’s been at the vanguard of video game innovation for the last two decades, and is world-renowned for its talent, tech expertise and end-to-end production capabilities.
It’s these elements, plus the Scotland’s collaborative ecosystem, that drew Halon to the country.
It was drawn to Glasgow, which is home to one third of UK regional tech firms working in the creative economy. The also has key strengths in technologies, digital design and marketing, media production, and animation and visualisation.
The new Glasgow studio will allow the company to better support global productions from both sides of the Atlantic.
Support from Scottish Enterprise
Scottish Enterprise, Scotland's national economic development agency, is providing Halon with advisory services and £3.9 million of funding towards the overall project cost.
Adrian Gillespie, Chief Executive of Scottish Enterprise, said: “I’m excited to welcome Halon to Glasgow. It’s a huge win that an ambitious US studio has chosen Scotland as its location to expand and scale up.
"Its presence will enhance the reputation of the country’s digital tech industry, and of Glasgow as a hub of artistic and technical talent.
“It’s also a brilliant opportunity for animators and visual artists to help develop innovative creative content for movies, series and video games right here in Scotland.”
