Logos Logistics demonstrates Scotland's business services strengths
Last updated: May 2024
Logos Logistics is a testament to the strength in depth of Scotland's fast-emerging sectors, with global chip giant Intel signing a multi million euro contract with the company.
Founded in East Kilbride in 2003, Logos Logistics offers end-to-end move management services for specialist machinery across many of Scotland's thriving sectors. These include the semiconductor, aerospace, pharmaceutical and life sciences equipment industries. The company provides bespoke solutions such as crate design and fabrication, packing, rigging, lifting and air floatation to customers globally.
Putting Scottish sectors on the map
The company demonstrates Scotland's sector strengths, especially in the technology, software and IT industries, with the signing of a contract with Intel worth over €3 million. This will be supported by Logos Logistics' new subsidiary in Ireland. The company predicts sales of £11.5 million over three years, made possible through SDI and the international GlobalScot network of business leaders.
Emma McGibbon, Director at Logos Logistics initially connected with SDI through Business Gateway after enquiring about support to grow the business.
“Within six months of meeting with Scottish Development International, I had our Irish subsidiary up and running,” Emma says. “SDI provided an itinerary for visiting and getting set up, who to meet with and when and how we would get things done.”
The skills, expertise and specialisms across Scotland's sectors proved to be compelling across the Atlantic too: What followed was a “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity. Emma explained: “We reached out and within three months we secured a multi million-euro contract with Intel as a result of that – it was remarkable.”
From Ireland to Oregon: Support from GlobalScot
Logos Logistics' services already appeal to US markets. SDI is there to offer its full support, connecting the company with the right people in the right place to make its ambitions a reality.
“The semiconductor market is growing in the US just now. SDI invited us to Edinburgh and meet with a GlobalScot. After meeting with the GlobalScot we established our base in Oregon within months,” said Emma.
Another connection she made through the network now sits on Logos’ company board as an advisor, helping with investment and product development in the US. Emma added: “The GlobalScot network was a great way to engage with people who are there and in the industry.”
A lasting impression on overseas markets
The initial Intel project is now complete. At the time this was the largest rigging and crating project in the whole of Ireland. The company is seeing the continued benefit of that initial connection appealing to overseas markets, and its impacts.
“In addition to proving why Scotland is a fantastic location to trade with, we’ve been able to recruit locally and established in Ireland which has given us a great base. Being here has helped us grow the product development side of the business. This will be significant for us over the next ten years.”
Following the success of its first project with Intel as Principal Crating Contractor, Logos Logistics was awarded a second large-scale demo project as part of Intel's growth. Emma describes this as an “affirming endorsement of the professionalism of our team and quality of our products to be.”
The company illustrates Scotland's commercial proposition to overseas markets, and to refine Logos Logistics' responsive design capabilities. It continues to attract global leading technology companies as it innovates in efficient ways to sustainably move and package the world's most vital capital equipment.
Reflecting on the tremendous success of this endeavour, Emma praised the knowledge and network of SDI's Ireland team: “Who they know and how they help connect you has been absolutely standout.”
An SDI International Trade Specialist said: “Logos Logistics is a fantastic example of a Scottish business with a truly global mindset.
“SDI was delighted to support them. Scotland offers so much as a country to do business with as shown with the company expanding into Ireland and now into the US. Our team in Ireland, notably our Science and Technology In-Market Specialist, played a key role in both making that critical connection. Importantly, they supported the company at all stages of their journey in establishing their Irish base.
“Our international teams excel at developing valuable local networks which can really accelerate companies’ drive to trade with Scotland.”
