Energy and tech expertise on a world stage

Based in Aberdeen, the trailblazing company demonstrates Scotland's cloud-computing capabilities by blending technologies with extensive energy sector knowledge. This all helps to solve a shared common challenge: how global companies can manage their health and safety better by unlocking the full potential of data through Fennex’s innovative solutions.

The ERM 2024 Global Health and Safety Survey revealed that 94% of health and safety leaders reported higher expectations for improved standards over the past three years, with 80% anticipating this trend will continue.

Fennex was founded by Adrian Brown and Nassima Brown - both of whom worked extensively around the world in the most challenging environments. They are both experienced engineers and former oil and offshore professionals. With decades of global industry expertise, they bring leadership skills and a deep understanding of the energy sector on an international scale to the company.

Digitising health and safety globally

Nassima, Director at Fennex, who's passionate about smart energy transition, says: “We're helping to address universal demand to make industries safer by leveraging latest technologies to fix complex problems in high-risk industries. By combining our deep domain expertise in offshore energy, we are reducing risks by digitising health and safety and policy assurance. This is mainly in energy transition business areas.”

The firm demonstrates Scotland’s strengths across its technology and energy sectors. Fennex’s solutions are rapidly capturing the interest of more companies across the globe. Its digital products are a smart and cost-effective way to translate the energy industry’s most challenging business processes and complex workflows into automated, data-driven digital platforms.

The company evidences Scotland’s world-class skills in renewables and technology

Supporting the world in energy transition

Scotland's pedigree across energy sectors, combined with technology expertise, is helping to transform global industries towards renewables. These strengths, coupled with Scotland’s track record in engineering and technology, have created an ideal business model for its solutions to be adopted around the world.

Scotland’s tech and energy transition ecosystem have generated huge interest far and wide, especially in regions such as the Middle East and Africa and in Europe, including France and Sweden. The catalyst behind Fennex's credentials builds on the business’s partnership strategy, which has seen it scale at pace, working with existing and then new customers.

Capturing commercial offshore wind developers in Europe

Scottish Development International (SDI) helped Fennex on its journey in 2018 by providing expert guidance and advice, particularly in identifying viable trade potential. SDI also provided support for the company to attend the G+ Offshore Wind Conference in Paris. This was backed more recently through the provision of an International Growth Support (IGS) fund. Fennex was the only software company of its type to be invited to the conference that was attended by all the major offshore wind developers in Europe.

The IGS fund helped Fennex to accelerate awareness of its solutions to a global audience, and further evidence Scotland’s world-class skills in renewables and technology. Little needs mentioning in how its solutions are contributing to the net zero goals of Scotland and the energy transition ambitions of other countries.

Team Scotland support globally

Nassima says: “The ability to access an organisation like SDI is extremely important so we can demonstrate our unique selling points on a world stage. If we had not spoken with SDI six years ago, it would have been much harder to capitalise on global demand for our solutions from Scotland.”

In Nassima’s own words, SDI support has been ‘diverse’, helping to demonstrate Fennex and Scotland’s capabilities, especially during its crucial growth stage. SDI was proactive in arranging phone calls and meetings, making the task 10 times faster.

Assistance also came from Team Scotland partners such as GlobalScot, which has a network of expat Scots overseas that helped forge vital connections.

Nassima sums up: “From Aberdeen we have a dedicated team of experts and exceptional talent who deliver cutting-edge technology to those 35,000 world-wide end users, enabling them to work safely and sustainably."
